A Christian organization monitoring the persecution of the Christian Church globally has recently divulged that Christians are the most persecuted religious group on the face of the Earth.

The Center for Global Christianity indicates that the persecution of Christians around the world is much greater than what any other religious group experiences, including world religions such as Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism.

Staggering numbers

Center for Studies on New Religions Director Massimo Introvigne reports that approximately half a billion Christians around the world are prohibited from freely expressing their faith, according to a report he gave on Vatican Radio. He also noted that some 90,000 believers in Christ were martyred for the faith this year so far.

The persecution of Christians on the supercontinent of Africa has reached epidemic proportions, and it is reportedly much more severe there than anywhere else on the planet.

Introvigne revealed that approximately 70 percent of all Christians killed in 2016 died in tribal conflicts in Africa. He explained that a large number of the believers who came to a brutal end in Africa did so because they refused to take up arms and fight their aggressors – because it would violate their conscience as Christians.

Other forms of lethal violence against Christians – because of their faith in Jesus Christ – was also accounted for by the advocate of the persecuted Church.

“The other 30 percent – or 27,000 – were killed in terror attacks, the destruction of Christian villages or government persecution,” Introvigne added.

Many of the 27,000 brutal fatalities suffered by Christians took place in Western nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Belgium, where an influx of Muslim refugees have been accepted. Home-grown terrorists in many of these nations are also on the rise – a movement spurred by militant Islamic recruiters who have moved into communities from jihadist-harboring nations such as Somalia and Iran.

The numbers provided by Introvigne are slated for public release in January, when the Center for the Study of Global Christianity will launch its latest findings.
